TR pattern means transformational reconstruction. This is a unique technique of creating 3d patterns. In another word we can say it is a technique of creating origami patterns with fabric in an interesting way. This is a very modern form of drafting and pattern making using a dress form directly to draft by draping instead of 2d pattern drafting or flat pattern making.

The most famous name related to TR in these days is Mr. Shingo Sato. He is the man who has invented this technique. He is a Japanese designer. He has now become a worldwide famous personality for his unique and really amazing pattern making techniques. Mr. Shingo has learned this technique on his own or we can say invented it while he was working at Azzedine Alaia as a designer in Paris. There is a lot to learn from him.

Though apparently the pattern seems to be complicated, it has been demonstrated in various videos on YouTube in such an easy way. Mr. Shingo starts working on his pattern directly on a dress form. The first stage is to drape a basic shape of a pattern using muslin cloth. While draping muslin on the dress from all the darts are taken to achieve the fullness and the contouring of the dress from. Now is the time to draw all the style lines on the draped pattern or muslin shell. Draw all the decorative details be it curved lines, geometric shapes or interesting lines. Once you are done with the plotting, your 3d muslin pattern needs to be removed from the dress form and cut on the style lines. This process automatically eliminates the darts and converts them into style lines after we again attach all the cut parts on their original place. But for this extra seam allowance of ¼” to ½”is needed. To add this seam allowance all the pattern pieces are placed over a large enough muslin piece, traced and added seam allowance all around them or at required areas.

We can create lot of new shapes and patterns using the same basic technique. The only thing needed is a keen interest in pattern making and an appetite to learn something new. Here we can list out some amazingly creative patterns of TR technique introduced by Mr. Shingo Sato. The bamboo bodice is a pattern which looks like bamboo leafage. The effect has been achieved so preciously by manipulating the darts. The same pattern can be applied on sleeves too.

Another interesting pattern is architectural reconstruction. This kind of inspiration has never been observed before. This proves that an architectural structure effect can be turned into silhouette also. All with the help of TR pattern making. One more very simple looking yet complicated pattern is a one piece with wavy lines. In this pattern all the eight wavy lines have been attached together to make a one piece by sewing eight invisible zippers.

We can give many more examples of these patterns as the list seems unending. This gives a huge scope to fashion enthusiasts to seek inspiration and think in a more creative way.
