Levi Strauss was born on February 26, 1829 in Buttenheim, Germany as Loeb Strauss. Later he changed his name to Levi. In 1847 he went to New York with his two sisters and mother to join his brothers on dry goods wholesale business.  After some years he heard about Great California Gold Rush. In 1849 many mine labror shifted to California for the business. He was not having any interest in gold, so he decided to shift his business to California. This move was many times more successful than he expected. But for this new business he had to travel a long way from New York to California. Most of the time. People of the United States from east bank to the west bank used to go by ship. Just Imagine! For the ship turn to K P Hong, the tip of South America North of the Pacific Ocean had to travel to Hadashet. In this journey ships must face the turbulent seas seemed. As a result, many travelers fell ill or die of starvation. Strauss, however, made the journey safely reached San Francisco. Fortunately, Strauss’s sister Fanny and Her husband, Denwood Stung, had become a local. They also help Strauss to become a local. Stunning and Strauss ran a shop together. In the shop, they started selling daily necessities. For sale Strauss’s brothers were sending some goods from New York. It also includes clothes for miners were. Strauss named his business, “Levi Strauss.” Strauss did well in business. In search of gold The city of San Francisco was overflowing with visitors. Some less than a thousand people lived in this city years ago. But when gold was discovered, there were many ships filled with people began to come.

Many people settle in the city of San Francisco after finding gold. By 1850, about 25,000 people had settled in the city. But this gold stamp did not last long. Strauss’s business by the time it started, very little gold was being mined. People still was getting cashless. It is a daily necessity from Strauss’s shop buying goods. Strauss’s business began to grow day by day. He did his business moved to a bigger and better place. In 1863 he changed his business name to Levi Strauss & Company. Three years later, he relocated his business. The new headquarters of the business is a lot more attractive than previous ones. Attractive gas lights in the new building. There was a mechanical lift to carry the goods. Strauss’s business flourished. But soon, he faced a major challenge.

The state of California has long been known for earthquakes. In 1865, Strauss had his first experience of tremors there. It didn’t hurt much. There were two earthquakes in a row. The second earthquake was huge. People fled the streets as the buildings shook. Some buildings collapsed. Nearby people were killed. The building where Strauss’s office was located was severely damaged. Strauss took the luggage out of the office with the help of the staff and repaired the building. He did not let the business shut down because of the earthquake. He soon resumed business.

Strauss had an important place in the local society. He was associated with a number of charitable organizations. He helped Europeans and Americans people to settled down in California. Naturally, its importance in society increased even more. In 1872 Strauss received a letter from Jacob Denves. Denves was a tailor in Reno, Nevada. He Used to buy cloth from Straussa’s shop. Strauss is a successful as well as honest professional, says Denwood. He needed Strauss’ help to work on a new project. There were many mines near the city of Reno. Davis used to sew pants for miners. For this he sometimes used a cotton cloth called duck and sometimes a cloth called blue denim. Once a woman complained that her husband’s pants were torn near his pocket. Denves sewed new pants for her husband. The fabric near the pocket should be seamless, Not to be torn, so he used metal pins. These pins were much stronger than a simple thread.

Davis’s trick did a great job. After seeing these pants, other miners also demanded the same pants. Denves sold two hundred such pants throughout the year. Seeing the demand for these pants, Danves wanted to make such pants in large quantities. But no one should imitate these pants, so he wanted his patent. The government issues a patent as a legal document so that no one else can steal a new idea. But it costs a lot to register a patent. He unable to afford it, Deneves enlisted the help of Strauss. Davis proposed Strauss that he pay 68 dollars for the patent, become a business partner, and share the profits from the sale of the pants. Strauss liked the idea of pinning the pants. So he agreed to Denves’ offer.

Obtaining a patent was not an easy task. For that, the idea is different the researcher has to prove to the US government that no one has used it before. Initially, the government rejected Davis’ idea. During the American Civil War, a company used metal pins to make soldiers’ clothes. But in the end, Denvis and Strauss agreed with the government that their idea was new. On May 20, 1873, he received a patent.

Within a few weeks, Levi Strauss & Co. sold the first pair of pocket metal pina pants. Over the course of the year, Strauss sold another 20,000 such pants. New factories started Levy Strauss & Co. to make pocket metal pinned pants. Jacob Denves ran the factory. Cutters in the factory, So the famous craftsman used to cut the thick cloth with a long knife. Then they used to make pants by joining these pieces of cloth with a sewing machine.

Strauss’s factory pants were attractive and durable. Where does this denim cloth come from? The word denim is said to have originated from the French word Day nemes. Day neems means from neems. The French city of Nemes was once famous for its durable blue fabric. But Strauss did not have to go to France for denim. A factory in the state of New Hampshire during the American Civil War have been making denim since time immemorial. This factory supplied denim fabric to Strauss for his  blue jeans pants. At that time, no one used to say Jeans, even Strauss. People in the west bought plenty of Strauss’s clothes. The company’s advertisements sometimes show Shepherds wearing denim pants. These denim garments began to be sold in Canada and some other countries. Strauss’s company grew in popularity and its name became popular. Strauss put a special trademark on the company’s pants. So it became clear that the pants belonged to Strauss’s company. Two lines were sewn in a V shape with orange thread on the back pocket of the pants. Levy Jeans still uses the same trademark today.

In the 1880s, Strauss labeled leather on the back of pants. On it, two horses appear to be pulling the pant on both sides. It’s as if the label says, “No matter how hard you try, the pants won’t crack.” If the pants are torn the company promised to give customers new pants. Therefore, some people also called this pant as a pant of two horses.

Strauss became a wealthy man in San Francisco because of Punt’s business. He also owned some hotels and buildings in the city. He started a wool factory. This layer of wool made his company’s clothes warm. As Strauss grew older, he lost interest in the business. His Nephew took care of the day-to-day running of the company. Strauss focused on other companies. He joined his board of directors and began long-term planning for the company. Strauss also worked with organizations that help people in need. He helped finance the teaching of young students at the University of California.

In 1902, Strauss’s health deteriorated. He died in his sleep on the night of September 26. News of Strauss’s death appeared on the front page of a newspaper in San Francisco. Hundreds of people gathered for his funeral. It included the rich merchants who dealt with Strauss’s company, as well as the poor laborers in his factories. Some people in the city closed their businesses on this day. A few years later, San Francisco was once again in the throes of nature. 1868 there was a bigger earthquake than last year’s earthquake. Pipes carrying gas to the furnace the eruption caused large fires. The flames were smoldering for several days. The fire destroyed all of Strauss’s office buildings. Strauss’s nephews did what Strauss himself would have done. They started raising the company’s dollar again.

Levi Strauss & Co. revived stood up. The company famous blue made some changes in denim pants. The button on the back of the pants the zip now appeared in place. The company stamped a small red label on the back pocket as a new trademark and printed the company’s name on it.

Denim pants can be known by many names began. In 1942 the company gave it the official name of Levis. Later, young children started calling him Jeans. The name is derived from the fabric of the pants used by the miners. Whatever the name, seeing that your company’s pants have been used by people for a long time. Strauss would certainly have been happy.
